Intense, focused interests are a hallmark of many gifted children. Rather than limiting them, we can use them as bridges to new skills and social connection.
Practical tips
- Follow the child's lead, then gently widen the topic outward.
- Balance deep focus with rest, movement and play.
- Celebrate good questions, not only correct answers.
When an interest becomes a shared activity, it also becomes a way to belong.
